South Africa Inflation Holds Steady In September

South Africa's consumer price inflation was unchanged in September, after easing in the previous month, preliminary figures from Statistics South Africa showed on Wednesday.

The consumer price index rose 4.9 percent year-on-year, same as in August. Inflation was 5.1 percent in July. The contribution from food and non-alcoholic beverages increased from 0.6 of a percentage point in August to 0.7 of a percentage point in September.

Excluding food and non-alcoholic beverages, fuel and energy, the CPI rose 4.2 percent year-on-year. On a month-on-month basis, the CPI edged up 0.5 percent in September.
