Poland Wage Growth Below Expectations In August

Poland's average gross wage growth for August came in below economists' expectations, figures from the statistical office showed Tuesday.

Average gross wages and salaries rose 6.8 percent year-on-year, which was less than the 7 percent growth economists had predicted. In July, wages increased 7.2 percent.

Compared to the previous month, average gross wages decreased 0.6 percent in August, which was worse than the 0.3 percent decline economists had expected. In July, the monthly fall in wages was 0.5 percent.

The average gross wage was PLN 4798.27 in August.

Average paid employment grew 3.4 percent year-on-year in August.

ING Bank economist Jakub Rybacki said the latest data reflected the labor shortages and saw limited room for further increase in wages.

The economist expects the increase in wages in the fourth quarter to be relatively small.
