Italy's Trade Surplus At 1-Year High

Italy's trade surplus reached one-year high in July, the statistical office Istat reported Monday.

The trade surplus rose to EUR 5.67 billion from EUR 5.17 billion in June. This was the highest since last July, when surplus totaled EUR 6.56 billion.

The annual growth in exports came in at 6.8 percent versus 6.9 percent in June. Meanwhile, imports growth accelerated to 10.8 percent from 5.9 percent.

The trade surplus with EU countries increased to EUR 2.67 billion from EUR 1.62 billion. Meanwhile, the surplus with non-EU countries fell to EUR 2.99 billion from EUR 3.55 billion.

Data also showed that import prices rose 0.2 percent on month in July. Import prices for the euro area remained flat, while that for non-euro area gained 0.3 percent.

Year-on-year, import prices advanced 4.3 percent in July.
