Italy's retail sales decreased in September for the first time in three months, preliminary figures from the statistical office ISTAT showed on Wednesday.
Retail sales dropped 0.8 percent year-on-year after a revised 0.6 percent increase in August. Sales were flat in July.
Food sales declined 0.3 percent and non-food sales shrunk 1.1 percent.
On a year-on-year basis, retail sales decreased 2.5 percent year-on-year, after a 2.1 percent gain in the previous month. Sales shrunk 0.5 percent in July.
Online retail sales grew 2.7 percent year-on-year in September.
