Eurozone Inflation Rises In September As Expected

Eurozone consumer price inflation accelerated in September to exceed the European Central Bank's target of "below, but close to 2 percent", in line with initial estimates, latest data from the Eurostat showed on Wednesday.

The consumer price index rose 2.1 percent year-on-year following a 2 percent increase in August. In July, inflation was 2.1 percent.

Core inflation, which excludes energy, food, alcohol and tobacco, was steady at 0.9 percent in September, after August's figure was revised from 1 percent.

Compared to the previous month, the CPI rose 0.5 percent in September.

For the European Union, the annual inflation was 2.2 percent for a third month running, following a revision to August's rate. The monthly figure was 0.4 percent.
