Eurozone Industrial Production Declines More Than Expected In December

Eurozone industrial production decreased for a second straight month and at a faster-than-expected pace in December, but the fall was less severe than the previous month's decline. Production of both capital goods and non-durable goods decreased 1.5 percent each and that of energy fell 0.4 percent. Intermediate goods output was unchanged, while production of consumer goods rose 0.7 percent. Compared to a year ago, production shrunk 4.2 percent after a 3 percent decline in November. Economists had forecast a 3.3 percent fall. In 2018, industrial production rose an average 1.1 percent in the euro area.
