Euro area consumer confidence weakened sharply in September to its lowest level in 15 months, initial estimates from the European Commission showed Thursday.
The flash consumer confidence index dropped to -2.9 from -1.9 in August. Economists had forecast a score of -2.
The latest reading was the lowest since May 2017, when the score was -3.3.
The consumer confidence measure for the EU also dropped in September, down to -2.8 from August's -1.8.
The European Commission is scheduled to release the final figures along with the economic sentiment data on September 27.
