Czech Inflation At 5-month High

Czech consumer price inflation rose in January, after remaining same in December, to its highest level in five months, data from the Czech Statistical Office showed on Wednesday.

The consumer price index rose 2.5 percent year-on-year in January after a 2.0 percent increase in both November and December. Economists had expected 2.1 percent inflation.

The latest inflation rate was the highest since August, when it was 2.5 percent.

The acceleration in inflation was led by faster price growth in the 'housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels' category.

On a month-on-month basis, the consumer prices registered 1.0 percent in January. Economists had expected a 0.7 percent rise in prices.
