Brazil's manufacturing sector expanded marginally in September, as exports slumped and costs grew at a record pace, survey data from IHS Markit showed Monday.
The manufacturing purchasing managers' index fell to 50.9 from 51.1 in August. A score above 50 suggests growth in activity.
New orders grew the most in five months, albeit modestly, driven by domestic demand. Export orders fell for the third time in the past five months and at the fastest pace since January 2017.
There were many reports that challenging conditions in emerging markets, especially in Argentina, had adversely affected export volumes, the survey found.
