Australia Retail Sales Advance 0.4% In November

The value of retail sales in Australia was up a seasonally adjusted 0.4 percent on month in November, the Australian Bureau of Statistics said on Friday - coming in at A$27.115 billion.

That exceeded expectations for an increase of 0.3 percent, which would have been unchanged from the October reading.

By category, sales for food retailing (0.2 percent), household goods retailing (0.4 percent), other retailing (0.4 percent), clothing, footwear and personal accessories retailing (0.5 percent), and cafes, restaurants and takeaway services retailing (0.1 percent) all ticked higher. Department stores were relatively unchanged (0.0 percent).

By region, sales in Queensland (0.5 percent), Victoria (0.4 percent), Western Australia (0.3 percent), South Australia (0.2 percent), the Australian Capital Territory (0.5 percent), and Tasmania (0.2 percent) all moved higher. Sales in New South Wales (-0.1 percent) and the Northern Territory (-0.6 percent) were down.
